Mini Law School - Understanding Sexual Assault Law

Elaine Craig

Abstract

Canada's laws on sexual assault have been significantly reformed in the last 30 years, but these changes don't appear to have changed reporting rates, conviction rates, or the way victims experience the criminal justice system. Why not?

In this lecture, we explore changes to the definition of consent and the capacity to consent to sexual touching, rules protecting complainants, and some of the obstacles that need to be cleared before we can see real change on issues of sexual violence in Canada.

Presented by Professor Elaine Craig, Schulich School of Law on October 24, 2012.
