Sphinx Moths in the Nova Scotia Museum Collection (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) (Curatorial Report #5)

Barry Wright

Sphinx moths are large, streamlined, fast flying moths, many of which are active around flowers at dusk. Some species are day fliers and a few are most active at night. The caterpillars are usually green with oblique stripes on the sides and have a small hornlike tail. The sphingid collection comprises 1,174 specimens representing 97 species, 26 of which are found in Nova Scotia.
