Abstract

Specimens for the Economic Minerals Collection have been accumulating since 1833. The gold medal winning collections of ores and industrial products assembled for several international exhibitions forms the core of the collection. A number of the specimens were left on loan to the Department of Mines when the museum was transferred to the Department of Education. This material has now been returned and is incorporated into the collection. It is only now, with the aid of rapid electronic data processing that the information contained in the collections can be easily prepared in a variety of special formats. The collection information presented here is an abbreviated form of the total data held on each specimen.
