Abstract

The hornwort family is monogeneric and Nova Scotia has only two species. Aquatic herbs, they are our only species with whorled compound leaves, palmately arranged.Floating plants, they have no roots, their long tenuous stems drifting in the water.Staminate and pistillate flowers occur on the same plant although often no flowers are produced. The single photograph was provided by Sean Blaney.
