Abstract

The pink family is large with about 2000 species of herbaceous perennials or annuals worldwide. Typically the simple leaves are opposite or whorled and the nodes are swollen. Flowers are five-merous. Petals are often cleft. Many are ornamental and have escaped to become weedy in disturbed soils. Photographs  were provided by by Martin Thomas, Sean Blaney, Ross Hall, Alain Belliveau, Jamie Ellison, David Mazerolle and Andy Dean.
