Jeanine S. Alesch received her Ph.D. in French literature from the University of Pennsylvania and has taught at undergraduate institutions in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Texas. Her publications include a story of Marguerite Yourcenar's translations of the "Negro spirituals" ("Marguerite Yourcenar's Continent Noir", published in Symposium) and of Hadrian's monoligizing narrative strategies in the Mémoires d'Hadrien ("Le Cours des devises in Marguerite Yourcenar's Mémoires d'Hadrien," in The French Review). She has also written on the treatment of adolescence and gender in Marie Redonnet's Forever Valley ("Material Girl: Becoming and Unbecoming in Marie Redonnet's Forever Valley," in French Forum).
