John Fletcher is an alumnus of Cambridge and Toulouse, Emeritus Professor of French and Comparative Literature, University of East Anglia, Norwich, England, and Honorary Senior Research Fellow in French, University of Kent, Canterbury, England. He is the author of some twenty books and numerous articles and essays in the field of French and comparative literature; in a career spanning five decades he has made major contributions to the study of Samuel Beckett, Claude Simon, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Albert Camus, Harold Pinter, and Iris Murdoch. A prize-winning translator from French, he is currently engaged on the translation of the Prix Goncourt 2009 prize winner, Trois Femmes puissantes by Marie NDiaye.
