Morag Young studied French with German at the University of Edinburgh, UK, from 1965 to 1969 and gained an Honours degree. She subsequently taught French evening classes for Wigan Local Education Authority (1977-88) while bringing up a family, returning to full-time employment as a Lecturer in French and EFL at Wigan and Leigh College (1988-99). She completed a Master‘s degree in French and Linguistics at Oxford Brookes University, UK (2001), followed by a PhD entitled “Shifting Selves: Identity Quests and Innovation in the Novels of Marguerite Duras, Patrick Modiano and Marie Darrieussecq” (2007). She retired to France in 2007 but maintains an active interest in the contemporary French novel and in French linguistics. The publication of an article in the Journal of Romance Studies (2008) led to an invitation to participate in a linguistics research group at the University of Angers, France, in 2009.
