A graduate of the Sorbonne University (Paris IV) in Paris, Dr. Martin-Lau is currently lecturing at the National University of Singapore. After completing his doctoral thesis on Jean Lorrain, he started publishing internationally on various aspects of the late Nineteenth-Century Fin-de-Siècle period in French Literature. Remy de Gourmont, Maurice Maeterlinck, Edmond Haraucourt, George Eeckhoud and Jean Lorrain are among the writers he has written on. He is currently working on the Nineteenth-Century medical perception of women and of « sexual disorders »: prostitution, homosexuality, necrophilia, adultery, etc. in the literary works of this period.
