L’actualisation de l’imaginaire de George Sand à travers la traduction catalane de Le château de Pictordu

Abstract

Already during her lifetime, George Sand was widely translated into Spanish—36 of her novels—and her work never ceased to arouse the attention of the Spanish and Catalan public. Indeed, several titles, such as Story of My Life and A Winter in Mallorca, have been translated in recent decades in several editions. Nowadays, we are witnessing the publication of new Catalan translations of previously unknown Sandian works, a fact that highlights the still lively interest in this figure shown as a symbol of protofeminism. We will analyze the latest translation, the tale Le château de Pictordu, produced in 2025 by Georgina Solà Sellés, in order to examine the strategies of editorial and translation updating of the Sandian imagination.
