Author Biography

Janet Whatley

Janet Whatley is Professor of French at the University of Vermont. She has published articles on Marivaux, Diderot, and Isabelle de Charrieé€re, as well as essays on Colette and Yourcenar. She also works on French Renaissance texts of the New World encounters, and has translated Jean de Leéry's Histoire d'un voyage fait en la terre du Breésil (1990). Her most recent publication is There Are No Letters Like Yours: The Correspondence of Isabelle de Charrieé€re and Constant d'Hermenches (2000).
