Rita A. Faulkner specializes in twentieth-century French literature, and in Francophone, Arabophone and Anglophone colonial and post-colonial literatures. She is completing her dissertation in Comparative Literature at the University of Illinois on the embodiment of woman as land and nation in the novels of Nawal El Saadawi and Assia Djebar. She has published "Assia Djebar, Frantz Fanon, Women, Veils, and Land" (World Literature Today) and has lectured on her subject at several conferences. She has additional research interests in psychoanalysis and literature, and in Surrealism.
