Oreste F. Pucciani (1914-1999) introduced the study of existentialist philosophy and phenomenology to the United States. He enjoyed national renown as a pioneer in second-language acquisition methodology. In his thirty-one years as professor of French at the University of California, Los Angeles, he formed generations of language teachers and scholars, including the four editors of this volume.
