Elizabeth Sabiston is Associate Professor of English at York University, Toronto, where she teaches American literature, nineteenth-century British literature, prose narrative (comparative), and Women in Literature. She has published The Prison of Womanhood: Four Provincial Heroines in Nineteenth-Century Fiction (1987), as well as articles on Sherwood Anderson, William Faulkner, Henry James, Philip Roth, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Harriet Beecher Stowe, among others. She is currently completing a book on nineteenth-century women novelists.
