Michael Sheringham is Professor of French at Royal Holloway, University of London, Associate Director of the Institute of Romance Studies, editor of Cambridge Studies in French, and a regular contributor to the Times Literary Supplement. He has written extensively on André Breton and surrealism, on modern and contemporary French poetry, and on autobiography and related genres. He is currently completing a book on theories and practices of ''The everyday." His publications include French Autobiography: Devices and Desires (1993) and Parisian Fields (ed., 1996).
