Author Biography

Richard M. Berrong

Richard M. Berrong is Prof essor of French at Kent State University. Since receiving his doctorate from Cornell University in 1977, he has published on sixteenth- and nineteenth-century French literature, including two books on Rabelais. His essay in this volume is part of a gay reading of Pierre Loti's novels, projected to present him as France's first significant gay novelist.
