James E. Fowler teaches French at the University of Kent at Canterbury. He has published articles on Diderot in journals including Studies on Voltaire and the Eighteenth Century, The Romanic Review, The Eighteenth Century: Theory and Interpretation, and Diderot Studies. He has recently completed a book on the role of desire in Diderot's fiction.
