Anne Frémiot is currently completing her doctorate in nineteenth-century French studies at the University of Nottingham. Her dissertation explores the discourses of identity and difference offered by the dandy in the novels of Barbey d'Aurevilly, the dandy's paradoxical relationship to oppositionality and reproduction of accepted norms. Her publications include "Du dandysme et de la transgression : la règle et la différence" (in Lieux interdits: Transgression and French Literature [Hull University Press]). She is the editor of a volume of postgraduates' papers entitled Fin de siècle? (University of Nottingham).
