Zhaoding Yang, after receiving his B.A. in political science from the Normal University of Central China, studied Western philosophy at the Graduate School of Peking University. Winner of a Chinese Ministry of National Education fellowship, he received his D.E.A. in philosophy from the Université de Strasbourg. He was writing a thesis on Alain when he decided to study French literature at the University of Minnesota where he was awarded his Ph.D. in 1998. He is interested in twentieth-century French studies, critical theory and interdisciplinary studies, and has presented papers and published articles on twentieth-century philosophy and literature.
