Marie-Odile Sweetser

Marie-Odile Sweetser is Professor of French at the University of Illinois in Chicago where she has taught since 1969. Her publications include two books on Corneille, Les conceptions dramatiques de Corneille d'après ses écrits théoriques (1962) and La dramaturgie de Corneille (1977), both published by Droz; La Fontaine (Twayne World Author Series, Boston: G. K. Hall, 1987); and articles on Corneille, Racine, Molière, Madame de Lafayette, La Fontaine, Madame de Sévigné, and women characters and writers. She was invited to present papers for the 1995 La Fontaine Tercentenary conferences in London, Montreal and Paris, and to speak on "Madame de Maintenon vue par Madame Palatine et Saint-Simon" at the Maintenon colloquium in Niort sponsored by Les amis d'Agrippa d'Aubigné and the Société d'étude du XVIIe siècle (May 1996).
