Catherine R. Montfort

Catherine R. Montfort is Associate Professor of French and Women's Studies at Santa Clara University. She was born in Marseille and holds a Ph.D. in French from Stanford University. She is the auth or of Les for tunes de Madame de Sévigné au XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles (1982) and the editor of Literate Women and the French Revolution of 1789 (1994). Her articles range from a study of the mythical imagery in the epic poetry of Agrippa d'Aubigné to an analysis of gender issues in the writing of Annie Emaux, and include essays on Madame de Sévigné, Voltaire, Charlotte Corday, Madame de Staël, Madame Campan, Vigée Le Brun and Simone de Beauvoir.
