Robert L. Mazzola earned the doctorate in French literature at the State University of New York in Buffalo. He has published a translation of Luce Irigaray's "Égales à qui?" in the journal differences (reprinted as "Equal to Whom?" in The Essential Difference, eds. N. Schor and E. Weed [1994]). He has contributed an essay on Duras' L'amant to the Journal of Durassian Studies and is currently working on "Matricidal Impulses in Duas' Later Fiction: The Deaths of Jocasta and 'Maman'," on a monograph entitled Sade, Acker, Freud: Deviance and the Undermining of Reading, and on a novel with the working title Sever Street.
