Didier Bertrand received his licence ès lettres from the Université de Picardie and came to North America in 1982. His main research interests and publications center around the French retellings of the Robinson Crusoe story, but he has also published on such stories from other cultures. He is at present working on a theoretical articulation of photography in (French) literature, mainly in Patrick Modiano's and Michel Tournier's works. A Ph.D. graduate from the University of Iowa, he is currently teaching at Indiana University, Purdue University Indianapolis.
