Patrick Brady was born in Broken Hill, Australia, educated at Sydney University and the Sorbonne (Doctor of the University of Paris). He has taught at Australian universities, was Visiting Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University, and Laurence Favrot Professor of French at Rice University. He now occupies the Shumway Chair of Excellence in Romance Languages at the University of Tennessee. He is the author of many articles and volumes on the evolution of the novel, the relationship between the arts, and contemporary literary theory. He is currently working on chaos theory and control theory.
