Susan Harrow

Susan Harrow's research interests lie in the areas of nineteenth- and twentieth-century French literature. She has published two books and many articles on modern French poetry and on Zola, and is currently completing a monograph on Zola's conceptual and stylistic modernity entitled Zola, the Body Modern: Pressures and Prospects of Representation. The theoretical underpinnings of her work have encompassed object theory, gender studies, autobiography theory and visual culture. Future plans involve more interdisciplinary work related to the visuality of the literary text. She is currently organising 'Sublimely Visual: the Art of the Text', a conference to be held at Bristol in Autumn 2008. Since 1999 she has served as Joint Editor of Romance Studies journal.
