Journal History

The Nova Scotian Institute of Science was established in 1862 and published its first volume of proceedings the following year. From 1863 to 1891, the publication was known as the Proceedings and Transactions of the Nova Scotian Institute of Natural Science.

In 1891, to reflect a change in the name of the organization, the journal‘s title changed to the Proceedings and Transactions of the Nova Scotian Institute of Science. From 1931 to the present, the journal has been known as the Proceedings of the Nova Scotian Institute of Science.

In 2007, the Dalhousie University Libraries launched a project to digitize the early issues of the publication. All issues of the Proceedings from 1863-2001 are now available online in the DalSpace repository:

In 2014, the journal transitioned from a print to an online format, using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software as configured by staff at the Dalhousie University Libraries. Journal issues from 2002 to the present are available on the OJS platform.
