PET in Halifax

With the recent installation of a PET-CT scanner in Halifax, local clinicians may now take advantage of PET‘s variousapplications in the field of oncology, where it has become a standard of care. PET also plays a role in the areas ofcardiology and neurology although it has not yet been approved for these uses in Nova Scotia. This article describesthe basic principles of PET and radiopharmaceuticals as well as PET‘s increasing role in the management of patientsin the areas of oncology, neurology and cardiology. PET shows significant promise in these areas and cliniciansshould be familiar with its many applications.Downloads
