The Mermaids of the Atlantic in Four Traditions

Abstract

An example of parallel folkloric and interrelated themes. This article describes the concept of the mermaid as it appears in four different cultures (French, Afro-Canadian, Mi’kmaq and Celtic) that have influenced the mermaid as she appears in Atlantic Canadian folklore.
