Loraine bay is a Senior Lecturer in French at the University of Southampton, where she teaches courses in contemporary writing and cultural and gender studies. She has published many studies of the work of Annie Ernaux (including Writing Shame and Desire: The Work of Annie Ernaux [Peter Lang, 2007]), and monographs on the writing of Albert Camus and Gisèle Bienne. She is interested in psychoanalytical approaches to literature, and is currently working on reversal theory and the role of play in the negotiation of lived experience and in cultural practice.
