About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Health Inquiries is an open-access, student-led journal that aims to advance interdisciplinary discourse about diverse ways of knowing and doing health research. It allows for the navigation of multiple research paradigms, critical reflection on one’s epistemological position, and engagement in pluralistic, transformative approaches to health research. Health Inquiries provides real-world experiential learning opportunities, including manuscript preparation following author guidelines, editorial and peer-review processes, scholarly feedback integration, and final publication. Health Inquiries publishes a range of interdisciplinary and critically engaged perspectives on health research. It is managed and populated by PhD Health students and PhD Health faculty member, Dr. Shanon Phelan.

Peer Review Process

Health Inquiries uses a two-stage peer review process. The first review will be carried out by a peer (classmate) and will be anonymous. The second review will be carried out by the HLTH 6000 course instructor and will be non-anonymous. The reviewers will assess the significance of the problem being discussed, the quality of the method and/or argument, and clarity of writing.

Publication Frequency

Health Inquiries will publish one issue per year.

Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Reconciliation Accessibility (EDIRA) Statement

Health Inquires is committed to the principles of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Reconciliation, Accessibility, Anti-Racism, and Anti-Oppression (EDIRA-ARAO). We value the diversity of identities, experiences, and ways of knowing that strengthen health research, and we recognize our responsibility to contribute to a more equitable and inclusive scholarly community.

We acknowledge that longstanding inequities and systemic barriers continue to shape health research. Prioritizing EDIRA-ARAO strengthens our collective work by amplifying diverse perspectives, methodological traditions, and ways of knowing. These commitments help expand understanding, foster empathy, and challenge the structural inequities that influence whose voices are heard, valued, and supported in health scholarship.
